Tips To Get Your Skin Ready for Spring
Spring is in the air, and with this new season come changes in the atmosphere, pollen, increased sun intensity and heat, all of which can have a negative effect on your skin if you don’t manage it right. With that in mind, here are some handy tips to help you manage the adverse effects of spring on your skin.
Spring Clean Your Skin
The cold, dry winter air can cause a build-up of dead skin cells and environmental toxins that stick around in your skin long after the colder months have passed. Have a thorough cleanse and release them but don’t overdo it! You can also up your exfoliation game as you spend more time outdoors and as you sweat more. If you have rosacea or acne, don’t use coarse, physical exfoliants but, rather go for gentle products with ingredients such as AHAs instead.
Use a Face Mask
You can use a face mask to boost your skin’s moisture after a long, cold winter. It’s difficult to make exact recommendations, as everyone’s skin is so different but, generally, masks rich in Omega fatty acids, antioxidants and Vitamins A, C and E are a good option. Alternatively, if you have rosacea, go for masks with skin-soothing ingredients such as chamomile.
Up the Vitamin C
Use a product with Vitamin C to brighten your skin after a cold, harsh winter – a water-based serum, for instance. Vitamin C is believed to slow the early signs of ageing skin, prevent sun damage, as well as improving the appearance of wrinkles and acne. If you use Vitamin C in a water-based serum, your skin will have the best chance of soaking it all up and getting all the goodness it can.
Swap to a Lighter Moisturiser
Just as we say in winter, where you should swap to a heavier moisturiser for the protection it brings from the elements, as we go into spring, you may feel your current moisturiser is a bit too much. A lighter moisturiser will hydrate your skin effectively, while still allowing it to breathe, without drying out. You can stay out for longer without having to worry about itchy or dry skin due to the heat!
Switch to a Lighter Foundation
A heavy foundation may be great for winter but, when the hotter months come around, starting in spring, you’ll see that those heavy foundations decide to shed the winter pounds and start running down your face. Switching to a lighter foundation will still give you great coverage, while allowing your skin to breathe in the heat, reducing sweat and keeping your skin clean and clear.
Clean your Make-up Tools
This, of course, is something we should all be doing regularly but we all know that life can get hectic, so use this as an opportunity and reminder to have a thorough clean of all your tools! With brushes, such as our Miracle Brush, you can wash them with a special make-up brush cleaning solution, or just with shampoo. Wash out your brush with lukewarm water and shampoo until the water runs clear. Then, pat dry carefully and leave to dry in a warm place.
You can also have a clear-out of your makeup collection – get rid of any products that have gone past their expiry date, have been opened for longer than the recommended number of months indicated on the packaging, or products that have just gotten too dirty – it happens! Unused products that are within their expiry date can be donated to charities if you find that you don’t need them!
Keep up with the SPF!
You should wear an SPF every day – even in winter, even when it’s cloudy, even when you’re not really planning to go outside. It’s so important! If your SPF application consistency has been a bit slacking in winter, however, this is your chance to pick it up again! As we look forward to the spring sun coming out, more and more, we can take this opportunity to turn over a new leaf as we get ready for spring!
