Lupus Skincare Tips from Emma Lynn

Lupus Skincare Tips from Emma Lynn

Lupus is a chronic auto-immune condition that can present in a variety of forms and symptoms. We often get asked questions about Rosalique and Lupus, since a very prevalent symptom of Lupus is a butterfly-shaped red rash across the cheeks and nose. We have invited Emma, who suffers from Lupus which causes her Rosacea to flare up, to write a guest blog about her skincare tips and tricks.

Skincare and Lupus

Hello reader! My name is Emma and I have Lupus. For those of you who don’t know, Lupus is a chronic auto-immune condition for which there is currently no cure. If you are reading this then you are most likely already a fan of Rosalique; which is great! But I’m here to talk to you about what goes underneath that magic green cream!

So, lets chat skincare! Everybody will have different skin with different needs and I am no way shape or form a professional but I am hoping that sharing my experiences will help save you some time and money in the process to finding the best skincare for you.

We all have very different budgets for purchasing skincare so let’s focus on the ingredients instead. When purchasing any skincare, I always look for natural ingredients as much as possible. I don’t put any nasties into my body, so I don’t like to put it on the outside either! Below is my routine and hero ingredients!

Morning Routine

Cleansing – Vitamin C based cleanser and toner to wake my skin up in the morning and combat any dark circles from a bad night’s sleep.

Treatments – I use a serum loaded with anti-oxidants to calm my skin back down after cleansing. Ingredients I like to see in my serums are green tea, liquorice root and aloe vera.

Moisturise – My final step before applying Rosalique or make up is to moisturise. This helps to lock in the benefits of the serum that I’ve used. I always use a moisturiser loaded with SPF to help protect my skin from environmental damage. I would aim for a minimum of SPF 30 but I personally always go for a SPF 50. And yes, use it over the winter too! Rosalique offers SPF50 too, but if you choose not to use it all over your face, a moisturiser with SPF has got you covered.

Evening Routine

Make up removal and Cleansing – Yes, these are two steps! I use a micellar water product to remove my make up and then a cleanser to properly clean my skin. My evening cleanser is an oil and is also loaded with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as acai berry and red algae to sooth my skin after the day’s adventures.

Treatments – After a two-step cleanse in the evening, I also use a toner with similar ingredients on a cotton pad, just to make sure that my skin is clear of any remaining impurities. I then move on to my evening serum which is retinol based. So many people with redness and rosacea are really hesitant to use retinol products but I wouldn’t be without mine. My skin does look red when I apply it, which is why I use it in the evening but the long-term benefits are fantastic! Just start with it a few times a week and work your way up. Also look for lower strength retinols that are combined with those anti-inflammatory ingredients!

Moisturise – As with the morning, my final step is to moisturise. Again, to lock in the benefits of the serum but also to help give my skin back some of it’s natural barrier that it may have lost during the day.

I really do hope that you find this useful and remember, treating your skin well will give you a great base for an even better finish with your Rosalique!

We just wanted to end on a super quick Q&A to answer our most frequently asked questions about Rosalique and Lupus:

Rosalique & Lupus mini Q&A

Will Rosalique cover my butterfly rash?

Yes, Rosalique will mask the redness of the butterfly rash. Rosalique can even be used if the affected area is very dry and flaky, but in that case we recommend applying a very good moisturiser under your Rosalique to make sure you get the best results from the product.

Will Rosalique improve the rash over time?

Rosalique contains 5 active ingredients that are anti-inflammatory and nourish and calm the skin. We have heard from customers that suffer from Lupus that they have had great results with Rosalique. Just keep in mind it can take up to 8 weeks to see the long-term results.

Is Rosalique suitable for sensitive skin?

Rosalique was especially designed with sensitive skin in mind, has been extensively tested and was deemed very suitable. We do however recommend doing a patch test for any new product you start using, especially for people with Lupus as they are known to have extremely sensitive skin.

Does Rosalique contain an SPF?

Yes, Rosalique contains a 5*-rated SPF50 which will provide long-term protection from UVA- and UVB-rays.

On a final note, the main Lupus charity in the UK is: https://www.lupusuk.org.uk/. Their website offers various types of support and lots of valuable resources for people who suffer from Lupus or think they may suffer from Lupus.
